“WHY do I need your training?” For a variety of reasons! First, you need to know about ALL of the laws that apply to you so you know WHEN you may use force (and how much may be used) to defend yourself. “But I don’t NEED your training anymore because of Constitutional Carry!” Sure, you can certainly bypass my training if you like, but I strongly recommend you take my class for a number of reasons. You probably already know that Iowa’s Constitutional Carry law took effect on July 1, 2021, but do you know what you are opening yourself up to if you DON’T maintain a Concealed Carry Permit? First, you are subject to the Federal 1,000-Foot School Law — you can be arrested for carrying a concealed weapon within 1,000 feet of a school if you do not have a valid Permit to Carry. Second, without a permit, you can’t carry in OTHER states unless they are ALSO Constitutional Carry states. Third, do you value your privacy? Sure, you’ll be able to purchase long guns AND handguns WITHOUT a Permit to Acquire or a Permit to Carry, but you’ll be subject to a NICS background check for EACH purchase AND the government will know each and every time you purchase a firearm (and they’ll know whether it was a handgun or a long gun). Why not maintain your privacy by maintaining a Permit to Carry? Under MOST circumstances, FFL’s are NOT required to report the sale of a firearm made with a Permit to the Federal government. So, WHY maintain a Permit to Carry? If you obtain your Iowa Permit to Carry, you’ll be able to carry in ALL the states that have reciprocity with Iowa, you’ll be exempt from the 1,000-Foot School Law AND you’ll be able to purchase BOTH long and handguns using your Permit and walk out of the gun shop the SAME DAY with your firearms WITHOUT announcing to the government that you bought them. These are the major reasons you should maintain your permit! You also NEED my training because you need to understand the laws that apply to you when defending yourself. There is an IMMENSE amount of information I provide during my class — ask ANY of my previous students and they’ll tell you that the day they spent in my class was the BEST investment they’ve ever made in their self-defense knowledge and that it was WELL worth their time and money. I invite you to make that same investment in knowledge for yourself!

Successfully completing this class qualifies you for both an Iowa and a Minnesota certificate (you may only need one, depending on your residency). This class ALSO qualifies you for Minnesota renewals. You will be required to shoot to qualify, but NO prior experience with handguns is required -- we will work with you one-on-one to ensure your success! There will not be a written test, only the shooting qualification!

Please bring a state-issued photo ID (driver’s license), pen and paper, and a sack lunch as well as cash or a check for the class fee. I will provide all firearms, ammunition, “eyes and ears” (vision and hearing protection), as well as targets for the shooting portion of the class. This class will be held at the Cresco Wildlife Club on the Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco, Iowa.

I work in conjunction with the Cresco Wildlife Club to offer these classes. The fee for this session is $125.00 or $130.00 per student. $30 or $35 of that fee will be donated back to the Cresco Wildlife Club in the form of a membership. For the $125.00 rate, I will provide you with a one-year SINGLE membership (or a one year single membership extension if you're already a Club member). Or, for the $130.00 rate, I will provide you with a one year FAMILY membership (or family extension) to the Cresco Wildlife Club! Come down and shoot with us on Tuesday nights when the indoor range is open to receive hands-on firearms training from our AWESOME crew!

Walk-ins are welcome, but seating is limited, so I recommend you reserve your seat EARLY. Pre-payment and pre-registration will also greatly help to streamline check-in the morning of class.

Please arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 AM the morning of class so I can get you checked in for the day. Class will start PROMPTLY at 9 AM and should conclude between 6 and 7 PM. You MUST be at least 20 years of age or older the day of the class to receive a certificate (you must be 21 years of age or older to redeem your certificates at the Sheriff’s Office, and the certificate is good for ONE YEAR from the date of the class).
